Unfolding is a vocal composition by Sarah Martin-Nuss that explores ecological thinking through collective listening and relational exchange. Performed by three vocalists and violin, the piece was recorded live in a single take. Using Martin-Nuss's voice as the guiding score, the other singers gradually attune to its pitch, rhythm, and breath until three distinct voices merge into shifting harmonies and moments of unison. The work considers listening as a generative practice through which individual voices become part of a shared sonic body, reflecting Martin-Nuss's broader exploration of interdependence, transformation, and ecological systems across painting, performance, and sound.
