Future Currents extends Sarah Martin-Nuss's exploration of ecological systems, interdependence, and transformation through voice and embodied sound. Originating as a live vocal activation of her 2025 exhibition at Rachel Uffner Gallery in New York, the project evolved into an LP produced with Berlin-based producer Jacob Bergson and an ensemble of vocalists and instrumentalists.

Blending spoken poetry, experimental composition, and song, Future Currents approaches voice as a relational force, using listening, repetition, and collective performance to explore how individual bodies become part of a shared ecology. Conceived as a continuous vinyl listening experience, the LP expands Martin-Nuss's investigation of collaboration, transformation, and the porous boundaries between self, environment, and collective experience. The recordings presented here, Unfolding and Open Systems, are two compositions from the larger LP set for release in early 2027.

Unfolding

Unfolding is a vocal composition by Sarah Martin-Nuss that explores ecological thinking through collective listening and relational exchange. Performed by three vocalists and violin, the piece was recorded live in a single take. Using Martin-Nuss's voice as the guiding score, the other singers gradually attune to its pitch, rhythm, and breath until three distinct voices merge into shifting harmonies and moments of unison. The work considers listening as a generative practice through which individual voices become part of a shared sonic body.
